Saturday 15th June - Victoria Park to the Power of Food Festival

Overview: For the 2019 Power of Food Festival we at Edinburgh Family Cycles are organising a guided bike ride from Victoria Park to two of the wonderful community gardens involved in this festival. We will be stopping at North Edinburgh Arts , and Granton: Hub community gardens where you can explore the gardens, learn more about these amazing projects, and grab a bite to eat of a coffee. Timings:  10:00 - 15:00 Moving Time:  1h 45min Start Point:  Jac's Coffee, Victoria Park Destination(s):  North Edinburgh Arts ,  Granton: Hub End Point:  Jac's Coffee, Victoria Park Distance:  6.5 miles / 10.5 km Difficulty:  Suitable for all riders. Sunday 16th June - Leith Links to Portobello Beach

Overview: As part of the 2019 Edinburgh Festival of Cycling we at Edinburgh Family Rides, in partnership with Fun Family Cycles, are running a guided ride from Crops in Pots on Leith Links to the beach at Portobello where there will be a picnic and games. The ride is almost entirely off-road and will take us along the Restalrig Railway Path, connecting to Portobello Promenade via a short section of shared use path along Seafield Road. We will stop outside Tumbles on Portobello Promenade where we will enjoy the beach before returning to Crops in Pots along the same route.  We will also be joined by our friends at Bike Curious who will be bringing some of their specialist family bikes along for people to try! Sunday 12th May - Middle Meadow Walk to Dr Neil's Garden

Overview: Join us this May for a ride and treasure hunt from Middle Meadow Walk to Dr Neil's Garden in Duddingston and back. The ride will take us along cycle paths of the National Cycle Network and some quiet roads, through Holyrood Park (which is closed to traffic on Sundays) and finally to Dr Neil's Garden. Here we will stop for around an hour to explore the gardens and have a coffee at the Garden Cafe,  after which we will return to the Meadows along the same route. There will be a treasure hunt quiz for children to complete en route, and our friends at Bike Curious will be bringing some of their specialist family bikes along for people to try! Saturday 13th April - Duddingston Primary to Bridgend Farmhouse

Overview: Join us this April for a special Easter ride from Duddingston Primary to Bridgend Farmhouse and back. The ride will take us along cycle paths of the National Cycle Network and some quiet roads, through Craigmillar Castle Park and to the farmhouse where there will be an Easter egg hunt for the kids and a chance for a seat and some coffee for the rest of us!  Timings: 11:00 – 14:00 (approximately 3 hours with stops) Distance: 5.59 miles / 9 km Suitability: This ride is suitable for riders of all abilities. Details: The group will meet outside Duddingston Primary School at 11am and will aim to set off by 11.15am. From here we will cycle along quiet roads, walking on the pavement for a short stretch along Milton Road West between Duddingston Avenue and Duddingston Row, until we join up with the NCR-1 cycle path. We will follow NCR-1 west for a short time, before linking to King's Haugh via a section of shared-use path. At the end of King's Haugh the group

EFR Returns for 2019

Edinburgh Family Rides are back and raring to go for 2019! The short, dark days of winter are slowly giving way to spring, and as the temperatures creep back up we are itching to get back out on our bikes. We are delighted to announce that we have eight rides already planned for 2019, with more in the pipeline, starting with our first ride in March from Murrayburn Primary to the Water of Leith Visitor Centre as part of the build up to this year’s Big Pedal by Sustrans! Other rides will include trips to Duddingston Loch, Bridgend Farmhouse, Portobello Beach, and The Yard adventure playground along with BBQs, beach volleyball and other fun activities. Saturday 20th October - Victoria Park to King George V Park!

Overview: This will be a short guided ride from Victoria Park to King George V Play Park and back. The route is completely off-road, making use of the shared use paths of the National Cycle Network, namely NCR-75. The surface is smooth tarmac with some gentle inclines. Timings: 11:00 – 13:30 (approximately 2.5 hours with stops) Distance: 2.6 miles / 4.2 km Suitability: This ride is suitable for riders of all abilities. Details: We will meet next to Victoria Park Children's Play Area at 11am. Join me for a pre-ride coffee if at Jac's Coffee van if you arrive early.  From here we will cycle north-west along local cycle route 14, connecting with the Hawthornvale Path westbound. After a short time on this path we will turn left onto the Goldenacre Path (local route 13) and follow this south until King George V Park. Here we will stop for around an hour to give the kids a chance to enjoy the play park before heading back to Victoria Park along NCR-75, returning

Saturday 15th September - Ride to Portobello Beach!

Overview: This will be a leisurely guided ride from The Meadows to Portobello. It will primarily be off-road, using the shared-use cycle paths of the National Cycle Network, National Cycle Route 1 (NCR-1), and some quiet side roads. The surface is good, smooth tarmac with some small bumps. Best of all, it is almost entirely downhill! Timings: 11:00 – 14:00 (approximately 3 hours) Distance: 4.8 miles / 7.7 km Suitability: This ride is suitable for riders of all abilities. Details: We will meet at the junction of Middle Meadow Walk and East Meadow Walk at 11am. If you are early then please feel free to join me for a coffee and a biscuit at Peter’s Yard cafĂ© just up from here, where I will be waiting beforehand. From the corner of Middle Meadow Walk we will travel along NCR-1 eastbound through the Meadows, through some quiet side roads around St Leonard’s eventually joining the Innocent Railway cycle path towards Portobello. At the Magdalene’s we will leave the Innoc
