Sunday 16th June - Leith Links to Portobello Beach

Overview:
As part of the 2019 Edinburgh Festival of Cycling we at Edinburgh Family Rides, in partnership with Fun Family Cycles, are running a guided ride from Crops in Pots on Leith Links to the beach at Portobello where there will be a picnic and games. The ride is almost entirely off-road and will take us along the Restalrig Railway Path, connecting to Portobello Promenade via a short section of shared use path along Seafield Road. We will stop outside Tumbles on Portobello Promenade where we will enjoy the beach before returning to Crops in Pots along the same route. We will also be joined by our friends at Bike Curious who will be bringing some of their specialist family bikes along for people to try!

Timings:
10:00 – 14:00 (approximately 4 hours with stops)

Distance:
5 miles / 8 km

Suitability:
This ride is suitable for riders of all abilities.

Details:
The group will meet at Leith Community Crops in Pots next to Leith Links at 10am. Before the ride, there will be the opportunity to try out some of the amazing specialist family bikes from Bike Curious in the park. We aim to set off by 10.30am. From here we will cycle east along the edge of Leith Links, before joining the Restalrig Railway Path. We will leave the cycle path at Seafield Street, here we will cycle north a short distance to the junction with Seafield Road where we will dismount and cross as a group to the shared use path on the other side. We will follow the shared use path east, connecting to Portobello Promenade which will take us to our destination of Tumbles which we should reach by 11.30am. The group will stop here for around an hour and a half to enjoy the beach, have a picnic, and play some beach games before heading back along the same route for 2pm.
